We are recruiting for a Sous Chef to complement our existing team at The White Swan in Greytown.

 What we offer:

  • $27-$30 per hour candidate dependent

 About the Role

We are a Wairarapa Icon and are searching for team members that want to be part of our journey forward. We are on the lookout for a new member to join our kitchen team as a full-time Sous Chef.

 We are on the hunt for leaders and team players who want to not only develop their career, but also our fantastic hospitality team.

 This is a unique venue, where you will get the support, love and care of a family-owned business whilst retaining job security and developing personally and professionally.

 You will be challenged to deliver outstanding service for the gastro pub style menu that services big numbers and a separate fine dining experience, that focuses on local ingredients cooked to the highest of standards. We are looking for someone with strong proactive leadership skills who has initiative, a passion for food and strong culinary skill and experience.

 Reporting to our Head Chef, you will support the delivery of a standard of excellence in the kitchen operation through service and hospitality practices and procedures. Working together with a vibrant, high-performing and committed team – your workday is sure to be interesting and varied. This role does include weekend and night hours.

 Attributes that will be helpful in the role(s):

  • Experience in a fast paced kitchen environment, serving similar quality of food offering.
  • Being hardworking, reliable, punctual and having a friendly “can do” attitude
  • Passionate about food
  • An understanding of the importance of our Food Control Plan (experience with Safe Food Pro preferable)
  • An understanding of Loaded Reports (preferable)
  • Organisational qualities – mature, professional and uses initiative

 Qualifications and Experience

  • Hospitality or Tourism related qualifications (preferable)
  • New Zealand Certificate in Cookery – Level 3 and 4 (preferable)
  • NCEA Level 1
  • 1 year+ in the Hospitality Industry (essential)
  • 3 years+ in a commercial kitchen (preferable)
  • Fluent English (essential)

Head Chef – The White Swan

We are searching for a passionate foodie and team leader.

As our Head Chef you will report to the Operations Manager of our Family-Owned business. You’ll be responsible for team leadership, menu development, cost of sales, procurement and of course all day to day kitchen operations.

This role is based in Beautiful Wairarapa and provides a fantastic opportunity to excel and showcase your skills and passion as an outstanding leader in the New Zealand hospitality industry.

THE ROLE

As Head Chef you’ll be heavily involved in a hands-on operation in a very busy and fast paced kitchen, leading our team of 11+. Experience in a premium and fast paced restaurant is preferred. You will have a true passion for food, fresh local produce & presentation. Maintaining quality and consistency is a key factor in the day to day running of our kitchen and team.

The successful applicant:

  • Will have previous experience in a similar high end and fast paced restaurant in a similar role, and be able to demonstrate strong career progression over a requisite number of years.
  • Needs to be comfortable managing a busy kitchen with a high level of consistency and creativity.
  • Must have outstanding organisational and communication skills and be able to seamlessly achieve labour and COG budgets.
  • Will be able to implement and maintain structures, procedures and systems.
  • Will be familiar with following and implementing smart procurement practices.
  • Will be able to follow all food hygiene guidelines in accordance with H&S and FCP
  • Will have a passion for great food, be experienced in creating a well-balanced menu, as well as managing food and wage costs, working within a budget and leading the team around you.
  • Will have very strong and proven experience in leadership.
  • Will have creative flair and passion for food, including a love for creating an amazing menu & food experience for our Guests.
  • Eligibility to work in NZ is essential, NZ resident or citizen a bonus

WHO ARE YOU?

You are a proactive leader looking for a hands on position within a company with an excellent reputation. Experience as Head Chef is essential, ideally 3+ years in a busy restaurant. You’ll come with a sound understanding of the financial side of kitchen operations including working within budgets and menu costing. Some other key skills/attributes we’re looking for are:
