Head Chef – The White Swan

We are searching for a passionate foodie and team leader.

As our Head Chef you will report to the Operations Manager of our Family-Owned business. You’ll be responsible for team leadership, menu development, cost of sales, procurement and of course all day to day kitchen operations.

This role is based in Beautiful Wairarapa and provides a fantastic opportunity to excel and showcase your skills and passion as an outstanding leader in the New Zealand hospitality industry.

THE ROLE

As Head Chef you’ll be heavily involved in a hands-on operation in a very busy and fast paced kitchen, leading our team of 11+. Experience in a premium and fast paced restaurant is preferred. You will have a true passion for food, fresh local produce & presentation. Maintaining quality and consistency is a key factor in the day to day running of our kitchen and team.

The successful applicant:

  • Will have previous experience in a similar high end and fast paced restaurant in a similar role, and be able to demonstrate strong career progression over a requisite number of years.
  • Needs to be comfortable managing a busy kitchen with a high level of consistency and creativity.
  • Must have outstanding organisational and communication skills and be able to seamlessly achieve labour and COG budgets.
  • Will be able to implement and maintain structures, procedures and systems.
  • Will be familiar with following and implementing smart procurement practices.
  • Will be able to follow all food hygiene guidelines in accordance with H&S and FCP
  • Will have a passion for great food, be experienced in creating a well-balanced menu, as well as managing food and wage costs, working within a budget and leading the team around you.
  • Will have very strong and proven experience in leadership.
  • Will have creative flair and passion for food, including a love for creating an amazing menu & food experience for our Guests.
  • Eligibility to work in NZ is essential, NZ resident or citizen a bonus

WHO ARE YOU?

You are a proactive leader looking for a hands on position within a company with an excellent reputation. Experience as Head Chef is essential, ideally 3+ years in a busy restaurant. You’ll come with a sound understanding of the financial side of kitchen operations including working within budgets and menu costing. Some other key skills/attributes we’re looking for are:

  • Excellent communication skills – communicating with staff & management both inside & outside of service
  • Strong leader – we like our leaders to lead by example, be passionate about what they do and cultivate an awesome team environment

Hospitality Manager – Tui HQ Mangatainoka

Be part of our Front of House leadership team. We are looking for a talented Hospitality Manager to lead our dynamic Front of House team at Tui Brewery in Mangatainoka.

The Tui Brewery is a national icon, located in Mangatainoka in Tararua. We have a café, bar, museum, retail shop, brewery (and brewery tours) and large conference and events spaces. We have a team of 12 people and around 25,000 visitors per year. Tui Brewery is run by The Experience Collective Ltd (TEC), who also operate two other hospitality and tourism venues.

You will lead our dedicated Front of House team, an awesome family of driven people who love to provide excellent hospitality. You will engage with our vibrant community and visitors to our region. The right candidate will display strong leadership, have great communication, an unrivalled passion for hospitality, and have a focus on growth and development.

About the role:

  • Permanent, full-time or part time (candidate dependent)
  • Tuesday – Saturday
  • Some evening work for functions and events
  • Leading the FOH team and supporting the Kitchen Manager
  • Work alongside our team and motivate them to deliver results
  • Rostering, event planning, managing supplier relationships, profit and loss reporting, manage wage and bar costs, team development, training, recruitment support

Skills and experience you’ll need:

  • Team leadership/management experience, essential
  • Hospitality and / or tourism experience, preferred

  • LCQ/Bar Managers Certificate, preferred
